Lower cholesterol level may help fight infection

Here's another reason to keep your cholesterol in check. It could help fight infection.

A British study in mice has found a direct link between the workings of the immune system and cholesterol levels. It found a key immune hormone stimulated upon infection can lower cholesterol levels and thereby deprive viral infections of the sustenance they need to grow.

Scientists say the next step is to see if cholesterol-lowering drugs would also work to help bolster the immune system.
