ABC7 talks to Chicago prof in Japan as aftershock hits

March 11, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Ibata-Arens is a representative of the Japanese-American leadership delegation now visiting Tokyo.

"We were about to enter the new Otani Hotel for a meeting with a group of Japanese CEOs. We were outside in the parking lot when the bus began to wave back and forth quite violently…We were trapped on the bus...here's actually an aftershock right this moment. I'm on the 10th floor and the bed is shaking back and forth right now," said Ibata-Arens.

Professor Ibata-Arens told ABC7 the aftershocks have been occurring about every half hour. But her hotel and other Tokyo buildings are built to absorb the shocks.
