FDA bans some Japan food imports

The FDA says no milk products, vegetables or fruits from affected areas of Japan will be allowed in to the United States.

The products will automatically go into detention.

Unlike other cargo, the banned items will not even be allowed to go through screening. But less than four percent of the food America imports comes from Japan. That includes processed fruits and vegetables, cookies, teas, chewing gum and seafood.

Officials are saying traces of radioactivity found near the damaged nuclear power plant are so low they pose no threat to human health.

Still, fish and shellfish are being tested.
