If you take multivitamins to stop cancer or heart attacks, new research finds that they do not work.

A study of more than 180,000 people saw the same number of deaths from cancer and heart disease among multivitamin takers and those who did not take the supplements.

Researchers say the best way to prevent cancer and heart disease is exercise and a healthy diet, but they also say that taking multivitamins will not hurt anyone.

The study appears in the American Journal of Epidemiology.
