The snow has melted away, but you might say it's still a little chilly in downtown Flint
"I thought Flint needed an ice cream shop downtown," said Tina Hudson, the person behind Tina's Sweet De'Lites. "Most small cities have an ice cream or sweets shop, but Flint didn't have that."
Tina's Sweet De'Lites ice cream and chocolate shop is now open in the old Mike's Triple Grill storefront, right near the corner of Saginaw and Second Streets.
"Just to be in business. This is an exciting thing for me. I never thought it would happen," Hudson said.
With the thermometer hitting 80 Sunday, Hudson, a former hospice care worker, and her mother, Vern Bell, couldn't have asked for a better opening weekend.
"It was really wild. We were packed," Bell said.
Tina's is scooping up a full variety of Hershey's ice cream flavors, along with an assortment of Italian ices.
"People that try it seem to really like it. A lot of times, they're coming in to buy ice cream and they end up buying Italian ice."
One of the specialties at Tina's is homemade chocolate sweets.
Although she just opened, Tina already has some big plans for some of the city's big events. "When they have Back to the Bricks, we'll have chocolate-covered cars. Bikes on Bricks, chocolate-covered motorcycles. Even for the Crim, I have a lady and a man jogger."
Following a busy opening weekend, Tina is confident she'll be serving up ice cream downtown for years to come. "I'm here forever. I don't plan on leaving."
Tina's plans to begin serving Coneys, nachos, chili and soup next month.
