A suspect was injured and now faces charges after he allegedly pointed a sawed-off shotgun at Chicago police officers.

Authorities say an officer responded by opening fire on the man, hitting him in the leg.

The shooting happened at around 8 p.m. Monday in the 5300-block of West Van Buren. Brandon Yancey, 18, is charged with aggravated assault to a police officer and unlawful use of a weapon.

Police say they were responding to a report of someone with a gun and that they heard shots and spotted the suspect. When they reportedly tried to speak to him, officers say he pointed a weapon at them. That's when police say the man was shot.

He was critically injured and taken to Stroger Hospital.
