Two electric cars get top ratings for safety

The Nissan Leaf and the Chevrolet Volt earned top scores for protecting occupants during crash tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

To earn the top rating both the Volt and the Leaf received the highest ratings in front, rear side and rollover crash tests. They are the first all-electric cars to be crash tested by the agency.
