DEA wants to make your medicine cabinet safer

April 27, 2011

Unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs can end up being misused and abused. They can end up in the hands of children who abuse pain killers. They can also cause confusion for those who take many medications.

Some people may even develop a resistance to antibiotics by attempting to self medicate with out-of- date pills.

Still, many Americans don't know how to get rid of these drugs safely. Throwing them away or flushing them done the toilet can be unsafe and hazardous.

To help reduce risks, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will be holding another "National Prescription Drug Take Back Day." It will take place this Saturday at more than 5,000 locations nationwide.
