On Wednesday, May 4, 2011, so-called ''crowdfunding'' websites will band together for World Give Day to promote the spirit of giving.

Through crowdfunding, people network and pool their money and other resources together, usually via the internet, to support efforts initiated by other people or organizations.

World Give Day was started in 2010 by GiveForward and Ethan Austin with the group was in our ABC7 studio to talk about the event. GiveForward provides easy-to-use fundraising pages, so people can raise money for a loved one facing a medical crisis.

For this year's World Give Day sites that specialize in areas such as medical, educational, social entrepreneurship and non-profit crowdfunding are coming together. You can get involved by donating to your favorite non-profit or a person in the community, or by volunteering.
