Chicago teacher, veteran honored by Quinn

Maj. Aaron Rucker is a decorated Army veteran and a teacher at Marshall Metro High School on Chicago's West Side.

Once a Special Forces Officer in Afghanistan, Rucker is a participant in the Illinois Troops to Teachers program, which assists military personnel transition to new careers as public school teachers.

On Tuesday, May 3, which is also Teacher Appreciation Day, Rucker is receiving a dual honor by Gov. Pat Quinn: May 2011 Veteran of the Month and the first-ever Governor's Award for Excellence in Education.
