SPF15 sunscreen might not be enough protection

June 1, 2011

If you use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15, some experts say you might not be getting enough protection.

The journal Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin claims most people do not apply enough sunscreen to give full protection. So, even though research shows that SPF15 is strong enough if applied thickly, many people don't put enough on.

The journal is recommending people used products with an SPF of 30 to ensure enough protection against sunburn.

Sunscreens, if used properly, act as a protective layer preventing the damaging radiation from reaching the skin.
