Metra: Crew followed proper rules before trains collided

Metra officials say recordings from the train that collided with an Amtrak train on approach to Union Station indicate the crew followed all proper rules and regulations.

The June 3rd accident sent several passengers to the hospital and delayed trains throughout the day.

The Metra train was moving at 12 miles per hour - well within the limit of 15 miles per hour for that location.

Amtrak says two employees were taken out of service pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation, as part of normal post-accident procedures.
