A statement from the Whiteside County Sheriff's office said the accident "involved an electrocution." Details about the accident -- nor the fatalities' identities or ages -- have not been released.
Detasseling corn is the process of removing the top of corn plants. Most fields are done with machines and then manually.
About 72 people were detasseling corn in a field when the accident occurred. Those who didn't go to the hospital immediately were taken to the Rock Falls Fire Department for evaluation. A counseling center has been set up at the Rock Falls Community Building.
