Study: Americans consuming less sugar

July 29, 2011

A new study shows the drop is mainly due to a decrease in the amount of sugar-sweetened soda that people drink.

On average, Americans are taking in nearly 25 percent less added sugar that they did nine years ago. The decrease is mentioned in the August issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

It apparently reflects efforts to limit sugar-sweetened drinks for children and the popularity of low-carb diets.
