There was a hero's welcome Friday night for a southwest suburban airman who's back from Afghanistan.

The Soldiers Guardian Angels and the Warriors' Watch Riders escorted Staff Sgt. Greg Raney home to Tinley Park. He's on a break from duty in Afghanistan, where he's served the U.S. Air Force for the last six months.

Raney graduated from Lincoln-Way East High School and attended Joliet Junior College before he enlisted in the Air Force.

He's received a Commander's Coin from Gen. David Petraeus and the Joint Service Commendation Medal.
