'Poverty Tour' makes stop in Chicago

August 7, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Princeton University professor Dr. Cornel West joined TV and radio host Tavis Smiley for their "Poverty Tour" stop in Chicago Sunday.

Their tour aims to keep the nation's poor from being forgotten by the political process in the face of budget shortfalls and possible service cuts.

West and Smiley toured the MLK Legacy Apartments on the city's West Side, and hosted a town hall discussion at St. Sabina's Catholic Church Sunday evening. They were joined at the town hall meeting by Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan, as well as St. Sabina's pastor, Fr. Michael Pfleger.
