Artists honor late singer Delois Barrett Campbell

August 9, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The Brown Sisters performed Campbell's favorite song, "Fly Away," during a tribute concert at Trinity United Church of Christ.

"The Royal Lady of Gospel" died last week at the age of 85.

The Chicago native began her career in high school, then went on to form The Barrett Sisters in the 1960s with her younger sisters.

Campbell's daughter said, in addition to music, her mother loved talking on the phone and the Chicago Bulls.

"My father would walk into the living room. He'd say, 'What's the score?' My mother'd say, '186-to-42, the Bulls are winning.' They were always winning to her," said Dr. Sue Ladd, Campbell's daughter.

Ladd said, if her mother taught her daughters nothing else, she taught them to hold fast to God.
