No evidence of Asian carp in Lake Calumet

A group keeping an eye on Lake Calumet said it has found no evidence that Asian carp have invaded the Chicago area waterway system.

The Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee used 11 ships and 38 commercial fishermen and biologists to check the water after testing found DNA evidence that carp may be in Lake Calumet.

Experts say carp eat large amounts of plankton and could starve fish that are native to the Great Lakes. That might destroy the eco-system of one of the nation's most valuable aquatic regions.
