On Halloween night in 1963, 74 people were killed and nearly 400 were injured in an explosion at the fairground's Coliseum.
It was just after 11 p.m. when skaters were finishing a performance. No one realized that propane gas was leaking from a rusty tank in the concession area, slowly filling the unventilated room. The gas came in contact with an electric popcorn machine igniting the deadly blast.
