An Illinois Department of Transportation construction worker was struck and killed by a car on a job site.

An Illinois Department of Transportation crew was resurfacing a road in Woodstock Monday morning at Route 14 and Route 47 when 34-year-old Ryan Nichols of Kenosha, Wis., was struck and killed.

"This unfortunately is a tragic reminder of the dangers of driving through work zones. We'd like to take this time to urge motorists when they're driving through and even approaching work zones to be especially aware and alert because lives truly are at stake," said IDOT spokesman Guy Tridgell.

So far, no charges have been filed as police wait for results of the drug and alcohol testing.
