ZENDAYA stars as "Rocky" on Disney's number 2 show: "Shake It Up"
Zendaya was in Chicago over the Labor Day weekend. She lives in Los Angeles, California and resides with her family and dog, a Giant Schnauzer named Midnight. Her interests include singing, dancing and clothes designing.

"Shake It Up" is the second highest rated show in Disney's history. It is a buddy comedy centered around a teen dance show. As it enters into its sophomore season, Zendaya's following and fan base has gone viral. The 14-year old Actress, Dancer, and Singer currently has 2 hit singles out; "Watch Me" and "Swag It Out," which both are rapidly climbing the viral charts!
"Watch Me" video performed by Zendaya and Bella Thorne received over 3 million views in the first week and now 8 weeks later it has over 11 million views! "Swag It Out" song performed by Zendaya has over 2.5 million listens.
In addition, Zendaya will also be making her leading actress theatrical debut as the star of "Frenemies" to be distributed by Disney in 2012. Zendaya, whose name means "to give thanks" in Shona language was born Zendaya Coleman to Claire Stoermer and Kazembe Ajamu (Coleman) on September 1, 1996, in Oakland, California. She grew up as part of the California Shakespeare Theater in Orinda, California where her mother worked as the House Manager. In addition to training at the theater's student conservatory program and later performing in numerous stage productions, Zendaya helped her mother seat patrons and sell raffle tickets to benefit the theater.

SHAKE IT UP:
"Shake It Up" premiered on November 7, 2010. Created by Chris Thompson and starring Zendaya and Bella Thorne, the show follows the adventures of Rocky Blue (Zendaya) and Cece Jones (Bella Thorne) as they star as background dancers on a local show, Shake It Up, Chicago. It also chronicles their adventures on-and-off set, their troubles and rising social status at school.
Davis Cleveland, Roshon Fegan, Adam Irigoyen, Kenton Duty and Caroline Sunshine also co-star in the series. The show's original concept was for Disney to create a female buddy comedy, only with a dance aspect. The dance concept is Disney's third original series, after The Famous Jeff Jackson and Sonny with a Chance to use a show-within-a-show format.
On March 16, 2011, it was announced that series has been renewed for a second season. An album with songs from the series, Shake It Up: Break It Down, was released on July 12, 2011.
PREMISE:
Shake It Up revolves around the adventures of best friends Rocky Blue (Zendaya) and CeCe Jones (Bella Thorne) who audition to fulfill their favorite dreams of becoming professional dancers. When they land roles as dancers on a local show, "Shake It Up, Chicago!," Rocky and Cece deal with their circumstances by adapting and maintaining their social status at school. They watch Cece's little brother, Flynn (Davis Cleveland) and the antics of their TV show which includes them matching the skills of their competition, notably brother and sister, Gunther and Tinka (Kenton Duty) and (Caroline Sunshine). The show also has story lines, which include Rocky's brother Ty (Roshon Fegan), who also has dance skills. Selena Gomez sings the theme song, "Shake It Up" and featured it on "Shake It Up: Break It Down."
