Problems with the turf forced the cancelation of a practice in front of fans in the pre-season.
A decision was eventually made to resod the field but the management company that runs Soldier Field wanted to wait until after Saturday's Northern Illinois - Wisconsin college game to begin the work.
Because of Sunday's rain, crews were only able to remove the old sod. Weather permitting, they will start laying the new sod Monday.
