CPD officer shoots suspect during struggle

November 24, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Paramedics took the officer in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital, according to the Chicago Fire Department. She is expected to be OK. The suspect was killed.

Fraternal Order of Police spokesperson Pat Camden said the incident started as a traffic stop. Camden said the offenders tried to flee from officers, but struck a garage door in the alley behind 7344 S. Emerald. The four offenders then took off on foot. A female Chicago police officer chased one of the men, who punched her in the face several times, Camden said. She then shot him.

The other three men got away.

Wentworth area detectives and the Independent Police Review Authority are investigating.
