Chevy Volt sparks fire-risk concerns

November 27, 2011 (CHICAGO)

A few months ago, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration test-crashed a Chevrolet Volt to check if it would protect passengers, but the battery was damaged and the coolant line ruptured.

The agency says the car caught fire three weeks later.

Officials believe the damage to the battery led to the fire.

General Motors, the company that manufactures the Volt, says the car is safe.
