Late Chicago boxer to be honored at Rose Parade

November 29, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The family of Francisco "Paco" Rodriguez has been chosen to ride on the Donate Life float in the 2012 Rose Parade in Pasadena, California.

Rodriguez was a five-time Chicago Golden Glove champion. He died in November 2009 during a title fight. His organs were donated and helped save the lives of five others, including his uncle.

"If I was in their position, what would I want for myself, for my daughter, or even for Paco, if it was him, I would love for someone to give me that opportunity to give life, to continue life and that's why I decided it was important," said Sonya Rodriguez, wife.

A portrait of Rodriguez made entirely of organic floral material will be featured on the float.
