According to a 500-point test known as the Nation's Report Card, which covers 21-big city school districts, Chicago eighth graders jumped from an average score of 249 in the year 2005 to 253 this year. Fourth graders improved from 198 in 2003 to a score of 203 this year.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, this slight improvement came after more than a decade of massive investments in reading.
Some good news in 8th grade math scores: Chicago was one of only six big city districts to show significant math improvement since 2009.
