Volunteers step up to answer letters to Santa

An annual U.S. Postal Service program in Chicago that connects people with anonymous letters to Santa Claus has gotten a lift by some last-minute generosity.

Last week, the post office told ABC7 they were down more than 400 volunteers and they had more than 12,000 letters asking for clothes and toys for the holiday.

Postal officials say more than 1,500 people have come forward since this weekend and offered to help with Operation Santa.

Chicago's program is the second largest in the country outside of New York City.
