The Illinois Lottery is defending a plan to allow people to buy game tickets online and with credit cards.

Online sales had been on hold until the U.S. Department of Justice issued a legal opinion last month that supports state-regulated online gambling.

Illinois Lottery officials say this could happen by March.

They'll develop a secure website that would makes sure online purchases are being made inside state lines by people age 18 or older.

Those who oppose the plan warn this will encourage people with gambling addictions to spend more money.
