Metra trains were delayed up to 45 minutes Monday night because of a switching problem near Union Station.

Hundreds of riders were stuck at the station at South Canal when the problem started around 5 p.m. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Southwest lines were affected.

Trains were moving again by 6:15 p.m.

Metra officials say the problem should not be an issue for the morning commute.
