Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said she wants an independent investigation into the death of a teenage inmate at the county's juvenile detention center.

Terry Bell Jr., 16, collapsed while playing basketball at the facility Saturday. His family says the staff should have prevented him from playing because he suffered from high blood pressure.

The Sun-Times reports Preckwinkle plans to request a probe by independent medical, legal or juvenile corrections experts.
