Dozens of puppies that were found in cages inside a vehicle are now in the custody of Chicago Animal Care and Control.

Police say 43 puppies were discovered inside a vehicle in the 2500-block of West Cermak on Tuesday morning after an officer heard loud barking. Two men-- Travis Wester, 22, and Larry Subject, 49 -- face 43 misdemeanor counts each of cruel treatment to animals and a count of violating owner's duties.

Police say the animals did not have proper food or water. They are now in quarantine at Chicago Animal Care and Control.
