A 42-year-old Chicago man has been ticketed with animal cruelty for allegedly dragging a puppy that refused to walk.

On Tuesday morning police responded to a call in the 1300- block of North Rockwell Street. Officers found a trail of blood leading up to Stanton Howard's apartment. Police say Howard claimed to be a trainer and that the blood was from his puppy that refused to walk.

Officers left and returned shortly after with a police sergeant. During the second visit, officers noticed another puppy that appeared "timid and weak."

Both dogs are now being held by animal control.
