Millions of glimpses into a country emerging from the Great Depression and on the verge of entering World War II are about to be unveiled.

The National Archives and Records Administration on Monday (April 2) will release the 1940 U.S. Census records in their entirety, offering a treasure trove of information to genealogists, researchers and anyone interested in preserving and perpetuating the stories of their ancestors.

Although you'll need patience -- the records aren't searchable by name yet. You can read the full story in the Daily Herald's edition from Sunday, April 1, 2012, or online at dailyherald.com.
