On Wednesday, the House executive committee approved a measure that would end a pension plan that gives government retirees who worked for 20 years free health care insurance. The American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) opposes the legislation.
The proposal is sponsored by Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan and is also supported by House Republican Leader Tom Cross.
