Food allergies more prevalent in cities

The Northwestern Medicine Research is the first to map these allergies based by geographical location.

It finds big city children are more than twice as likely to have reactions to peanuts and shellfish. The reason is unclear.

One thought is early exposure to certain bacteria in rural settings may create food allergy protection. Another thought is pollution in urban areas may trigger the development of these allergies.
