Work on the CTA's Purple Line gets underway Friday night as crews will replace two 100-year-old train viaducts in Evanston.

The project will increase safety and reduce travel times along the route according to CTA officials.

The Dempster and Grove Street viaducts will be torn down.

The replacement bridges have been assembled and loaded onto hydraulic lifts.

Purple Line service between Howard and Davis will stop Friday night at 8:30 and is scheduled to resume by 4:30 Monday morning.
