Study: An aspirin a day may reduce cancer risk

August 10, 2012

Researchers at the American Cancer Society found that the risk of dying from cancer was 16- percent lower among people who took aspirin every day for up to eleven years.

Deaths from gastrointestinal cancers fell by about 40 percent.

Researchers studied more than 100,00 men and women with no prior history of cancer.

Scientists are not certain how aspirin prevents cancer but suggest the drug may reduce inflammation in the body or slow the mutations in cells that may turn cancerous.
