The proposal would also involve cutting 12 bus routes. CTA officials say they have lower ridership and that there's other bus and train service available to passengers. Cutting those routes would pay for the additional service
CTA president Forrest Claypool says the changes would affect the most crowded routes.
Ridership on the CTA has risen for 16 consecutive months. Claypool hopes the new service will be approved and in place sometime in December.
