Video shows Philadelphia cop punching woman

October 1, 2012 (PHILADELPHIA)

The video, which appears to have been shot after the Puerto Rican Day Parade on Sunday, was uploaded to YouTube with a date stamp of September 30, 2012.

The beginning of the video shows a number of police officers at 5th and Lehigh in the city as they were responding to a traffic stop.

As the video begins, the woman can be seen jumping behind the officers with something in her hand.

A few moments into the video, someone throws a liquid at the gathered officers.

The woman turns around in that direction, as does a Philadelphia police commander, wearing a white shirt.

That officer then approaches the woman and punches her in the face.

As the video continues, the woman is seen being taken away by police with blood on her face.

Action News has learned that woman was taken into custody on a disorderly conduct charge and was released.

Police claim the woman threw water and sprayed silly string on the officers.

The Philadelphia Police Internal Affairs unit confirms it is investigating the video.

Police are not releasing the name of the officer in the white shirt at this time.
