When the cancer is gone, impairments can remain. Some patients may be surprised to find their next step is physical therapy. That because impairments common after treatment for breast cancer include: pain, restricted range of motion, lymphedema- characterized by arm, breast or chest swelling; and weakness.
Rehabilitation has been shown in clinical studies to be effective in treating may of those side effects. The goal for patients? Return to the lifestyle they had before cancer.
