Warren Township High School and River Trail School are affected, with some children being bused to Viking Middle School until the situation is resolved. Traffic in the area is heavy. Warren High School is updating their website with the latest information.
Police are releasing few details, but a man who was apparently holed up inside a home near the campus of the schools has been taken into custody.
Students who had already arrived at school before the lockdown began will be transported home. Classes are canceled for the day. Parents whose children are already at the school were asked to refrain from attempting to pick up their children.
School has been canceled at Warren Township High School's O'Plaine Campus. The Almond Campus will continue to run on the normal daily schedule.
The status of all O'Plaine after-school activities has yet to be decided.
The police activity prompted a lockdown of the high school, junior high and an elementary school.
