A Near North Side alderman wants to move more police officers to neighborhoods with higher crime rates, according to a published report.

The Chicago Tribune said Alderman Brendan Reilly suggested that Magnificent Mile businesses hire off-duty police officers to patrol the busy shopping district. That would free up on-duty officers for deployment in more violent areas.

He reportedly floated the idea during a City Council budget hearing Wednesday.
