Dixmoor village trustee charged after fight

November 8, 2012

Police said Michael Smith got into a confrontation with his 60-year old aunt that turned physical.

The alleged dispute happened outside a home owned by a relative of Smith.

Both Smith and his aunt may be at fault, according to police.

"Right now we're dealing with the physical nature of this particular matter. Not what lead to it. Not the preface but the physical nature," Dixmoor spokesperson Sean Howard said. "The physical nature is what counts. That's why we have domestic violence laws, we have to act upon them."

Fellow Dixmoor trustee Fitzgerald Roberts, who said he witnessed the altercation, claimed Smith never hit his aunt and that the charges are politically motivated.
