The chemical makeup of grapefruit can have a bad interaction with more than 85 prescription drugs, including certain cholesterol lowering statin drugs such as Zocor, Lipitor and Pravachol; some blood pressure lowering drugs; and certain cardiovascular drugs just to name a few.
Canadian researchers say many doctors seem unaware of the concern and need to consider potential alternative medications that are not metabolized by the liver enzyme inhibited by grapefruit.
