Pace to add put more buses on highway shoulders

Pace plans to add more routes to its popular highway shoulder program because of an increase in ridership.

The routes start in Plainfield and Bolingbrook and use the shoulder of the Stevenson to bypass traffic tie-ups. Destinations include downtown Chicago, North Michigan Avenue, Union Station and the University of Illinois Medical District.

It's been a pilot program for the last year.

PACE says it wants to add one or two additional trips next year because it has seen ridership increase by 30 percent.
