Man shot in South Side police altercation

A man was shot and killed after an altercation with police in the city's South Side Saturday morning.

The incident happened at the 5500-block of South Ashland Avenue.

Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says the man attacked two officers, beating up one of them Saturday morning.

The other officer then shot the suspect, who was found to be unarmed.

A confrontation between cops and local residents ensued, leading to nine arrests.

Both of the officers received treatment for injuries.
