Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy helped arrest a man in the Austin neighborhood Monday.

But he downplayed his role in the arrest and said he regularly goes out on patrol with officers.

"Anybody that doesn't believe we have too many guns in this city, should come on patrol New Year's Eve at midnight," he said. "So we were out chasing gunshots for a couple of hours that night. And at about 1:30 in the morning, we did a car stop and recovered a gun. It's something we do all the time."

Montrez Armstead, 23, was arrested and is facing felony weapons charges. Officers said he had a Glock semi-automatic handgun.
