A former Chicago Ridge deputy fire chief appeared in court on charges of home invasion and attempted murder.

Police say that Gary Swiercz broke into his neighbor's home early Saturday morning in a ski mask, holding a knife, duct tape and a sexual device.

The neighbor was treated for minor injuries at her home.

Ridge authorities say that Swiercz was off-duty and is on indefinite administrative leave.

He's being held on $150,000 bail.
