Did you know the average 20-ounce bottle of soda contains about 16 teaspoons of sugar?

The American Heart Association currently recommends that men consume no more than nine teaspoons of sugar daily and women no more than six.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest is calling for the federal government to step in and lower those amounts.

Obesity, diabetes and heart disease are cited as reasons why it has petitioned the FDA to cut sugars and determine safe levels.
