A serial robbery suspect was charged Thursday after allegedly using a fake gun in a series of holdups in Chicago.

Jesus Rojas is accused of robbing stores about a month ago to buy gifts for his girlfriend.

When police pulled Rojas over Wednesday, he tried to run and was shot in the arm.

Police say that after the girlfriend rejected him, Rojas continued to rob stores because he wanted police to kill him.

Rojas has been charged with multiple counts of attempted murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault.
